Instructions For A Criminal

Instructions For A Criminal

A Poem by Alice Patterson

What am I supposed to do now?

Just sit here and watch you bury me alive?

Sorry for the inconveince

but that's not how normal people thrive.

Going off to break my heart

not caring if it was ever whole

but, who listens, y'know?

because I guess it wasn't only my life you stole.

They say when a tree falls in the night

it still makes a sound, strong and clear

but you press your finger to my lips

some things no one will hear

Just because I didn't come off strong then

doesn't mean that i'm not iron now

if I get my way the last thing you'll think is

she's so strong, and she doesn't care if I called her a cow.
