Packing

Packing

A Poem by Amortentia03

Pop.
Seamlessly, the lid will go
Off and to the side. Wait
For a second as the dust clears,
Off to shelves to accumulate
With the other landmarks of your journey.
You know you should address them too,
But for today,
You’ve got boxes to get through.
Make two piles.
One to trash and one to stay,
Pack the resilient into the vault
And let the rest be swept away.
Fold and crease them nicely now
You never know how long they’ll last
Inside their plastic prison
As you pack away your past.
Don’t be shy, I know there’s more
The box you have can fit
And the only panacea
Is the act of starting to forget.
