A Poem by WillaDanvers
"

So many broken stories that are never told

"

The road bends into the distance,

It seems like it goes forever,

But you and I both know better,

Home is just around that corner,

I wish it were forever away,

That way we would both be safe,

From those malicious fists,

And those cold icy words,

It used to one day be warm,

Full of love and forever days,

Our mother, watching us carefully,

Now she only mourns from above,

Innocent children walking the road,

Minds wishing to be a million years away,

Above with you, without mourning,

Enjoying the peace they no longer get,

His words are the first thing they hear,

Angry and tempestuous, hateful,

Burning a hole in their childhood,

Forcing them to become adults too soon,

Broken bottles caressing their skin,

Littering the darkened floor,

Home was once around that corner,

But now it’s only known as hell.

You capture the sadness, futility, fear and hopelessness of someone caught in a domestic abuse situation in this lament of a poem.
