Dream State

Dream State

A Poem by Amy Whetzell
"

its one of my best, I think

"

In the cold brutal darkness

With pain all around

In the midst of my memories

No happy thoughts to be found

As I roll in a sea

Of deep endless sleep

My dreams come alive

Wherever monsters may creep

Nowhere to run

Nowhere to hide

I spread my wings

But I cannot fly

This mystical beast

Of a time long ago

Has a grip on my soul

And just won’t let go

I scream in a voice

That delivers no sound

I see through the eyes

Where no sight can be found

I begin to run

On a path with no end

I look behind me

And see the beast again

No more can I run

So I turn to fight

Only darkness around

With no beast anywhere in sight

Have I finally won?

Without a single blow?

Has this beast of my heart

Finally let go?

As I open my eyes

To a brand new day

And sun beams wash

All my fears away

I realize now

With the beast finally gone

That time heals all wounds

If you can hold out that long
