Lull Me to Bed Once More, My Love

Lull Me to Bed Once More, My Love

A Poem by Justin Daniel Stahl

I rest my head next to yours. I whisper my affection and my goodnight.

I sleep so that I may awaken with you.

Lull me to bed once more, my love.

Our nights became numbered.

Then you were gone.

I lay my head down, lonely on your pillow. I whisper my affection, my hurt and my goodbye.

I do not rest but manage to sleep.

The nights slowly lost their edge.

I rest my head, alone on my pillow. I whisper nothing but breathe deep with a tight and heavy chest.

I am conquered by slumber and am flooded by dreams.

Dreams that are without the burden of pain and anxiety.

Dreams that depict the past sans truth.

Where you lull me to bed once more, my love.

Once more, my love.

I sleep so I don’t have to be awake without you.
