Invasion Force

Invasion Force

A Poem by Corwin McAllister
"

This is about those inexplicably placed strands of gossamer that get caught in your face in summer, while you're walking down the middle of the street.

"

All plans laid and preparations complete
    The invasion force launches
Springing from the branches overhead
Their lot cast in with destiny
Suspended in the air beneath parachutes
    Like soldiers over Normandy

Buffeted about by the treachery of winds
    Suspended precariously aloft
Not unlike words uttered by the eulogist
Or kisses blown between separated lovers
That dare to defy all distances

All but invisible their means of conveyance
Except when a beam of light
Catches and plays along a gossamer tether
When the angle is just right
It undulates shimmering like a long ribbon
    Woven out of moonbeams
