Carthamus Tinctorius

Carthamus Tinctorius

A Poem by

Silence like saffron coating my tongue

threads of thoughts in a field of crocus

bitter and sweet, a laborious harvest

inner reflections in vivid hue

I swallow regret and note how the silence

compliments the flavor in earthy notes

distinguished by the way it burns going down

as gold-tinged tears stain the whites of my eyes

Thank you for these strong words. I like poetry that make me think and read a few times. Your poem did.

A excellent poem.

Often we mistake the dew of the morning for a sign of spring, but it is really the tears of the earth mother reborn kicking and screaming wishing to go back to sleep.
I rather prefer the thistle for it's protection from predators.
