A Thought About Poetry

A Thought About Poetry

A Poem by Alexzandera

I had a thought about poetry

Not while writing it

But while staring at my ceiling

At 2 a.m. on a Friday night

Or is it a Saturday morning?

No matter

I had a thought about poetry

And this thought I had about poetry

At 2 a.m. on a Friday/Saturday night/morning

Was perhaps not a thought

An epiphany I think

I had an epiphany about poetry

I had an epiphany about poetry

At an absurd hour,

At a time that seems to be

Both morning and night

But simultaneously neither

Either way, an epiphany it was

A perfect epiphany about poetry

And so I grabbed my laptop

(after failing to locate my notebook)

To record the perfect epiphany about poetry

I turned it on

I signed in

And I opened this document

A document soon to contain

My perfect epiphany about poetry

But by the time my fingertips grazed the keyboard

Or, pounded on it really

I found I could no longer recall

This perfect epiphany I had about poetry

While staring at my ceiling

During neither the morning nor the night

(but also both)

My epiphany had faded

Dimmer than a thought

Now I only think I had a thought about poetry

And instead I think I had a thought about time

I relate to this so well. The beginning had me curious where you were going with this but by the time I got to the end I was grinning like a fool because I do this all the time. The worst is when I turn my laptop on only to meet a loading screen that takes an hour before I can log in and by then I've failed to locate my notebook and by the time I get a document open I realize I forgot what I was going to write. Love how you portrayed this event and feeling into a poem.
Makes me realize to never gain that perfect thought because then the human condition will kick in and leave us feeling like this!

This is so descriptive of those anxious moments of stumbling upon what we believe to be note-worthy words in the backstreets of our minds, yet when we reach for whatever way to record them, they are gone!

Lately I have tried what I call image recall. I may be driving, so I cannot write anything down, so I link a few images to the words I wanted to write down, putting them in sequence.....the clever people say that we remember best while using images (not actual words) so I am putting that theory to the test....:) Nothing worse to remain staring at the ceiling for a while longer while pondering what marvelously gorgeous words I just allowed to slip through my fingers.....;)

I do the below lines often.
"But by the time my fingertips grazed the keyboard
Or, pounded on it really
I found I could no longer recall
This perfect epiphany I had about poetry"
Now I carry a small journey and I make note for later. Than you Alexzandera for sharing the amazing poetry.
