Find the other.

My name is Abby and I am known as the Black Death. It took me too long to get that kind of nickname and I wasn’t about to let it waste away. I have to live up to it- something I had no problem doing. It got me the perfect mix of fear and awe which tastes very good in a person’s blood.

I hang upside down in a small crevasse in a small hill, Oak Hell they call it, mostly because I tend to be here most of the time. Hey, there are unbelieving teenagers who go through here every night because they claim ‘the Black Death’ rumor is untrue. How lucky am I?

I caught the whiff of human blood traveling from the east. Grinning enormously I wait patiently to watch the show. As I suspected, three young adults were walking straight toward me, a female and two males. Yes, free 3-course meal tonight.

“I ain’t scared,” the younger male sneers, “She ain’t real.”

“Idiot,” the redhead girl mutters. She must be the younger male’s sister because they both had the same color hair. I smirk happily. Ignorant meals, even better; this was going to be fun.

The taller brown-haired guy visibility shakes. “Dude, Jenny and Mark have been near here. That’s where Jenny…” he gulps and his voice dries up with emotion.

“Jenny was NOWHERE near here when she died,” Redhead guy spits, “She died of cancer in the brain.”

“She was found here by police!”

The two redheads look at each other, one scoffing and the other smirking arrogantly. “I still say you’re scared.” The male slurs.

“She ain’t real,” the girl shouts at the nervous blonde still standing ten feet away from them.

“Of course she’s not real,” I murmur loud enough for each to hear. Like a snake I snatch up the girl and retreat back to the top of the hill. She struggles pathetically in my grasp and screams. Her blood raced through her system and I smile beautifully- how I loved the screaming.

“Anna! Anna; where are you?” I hear her partner shout over the ear-piercing shrieks.

I shake her roughly. Sure, it was fine when they screamed but really? I mean, I know I’m scary but I’m not that scary. Her gray eyes unfocused, looking off to the right.

“I swear, if you don’t shut up, I’ll give you damn good reason to scream.” I hiss and flash my canines at her.

She doesn’t hear me over her panic. Her heartbeat only picked up speed and I shudder in delight at the sound. I can feel fresh blood rushing through her veins.

“Get your hands off my sister!” Something knocks against my back and it burns, it burns so much. I screech and writhe to get it off. The boy stood there with a huge cross necklace in his hand. He just torched me on my back; he burned my skin off.

“You little b*****d,” I pant and crouch forward. Already I knew the mark on my back would not come off, “You’re a believer now, aren’t you?” His sister was still in my grasp, her mouth open in shock. She didn’t breathe and kept her eyes on me like I was her worst nightmare. And I think that is exactly the case.

“Let her go,” he lifts the cross up in front of him and takes a step closer. His cross hand didn’t waver an inch but the rest of his body was shaking.

“Do you want to take her place?” I smirk at him. For some reason, everything just got a lot quieter. I look at the inert girl and I shriek angrily, “Are you kidding me?! I didn’t get to kill her!”

“Anna,” the boy whimpers. The cross drops onto the grass.

I fling the dead girl aside and turn toward him, seething. Enraged thoughts cloud my mind. “You,” I whisper. My gaze shifts over to the blonde who stood motionless in the same exact standing position. “Die.” I whisper softly now; my words low and deadly. His breathing stops as he falls like a tenpin, dead before he even hit the ground. The remaining boy’s frame rattled violently. He was having a really severe panic attack. I grab him by the cuff of his blue shirt and yank him toward me, toward my awaiting mouth.

Find the other.

I growl loudly as I clutch my head with my hands in agony. Pain radiated and pulsed through my skull along with those three damn words. It took over my mind and left me its captive.

Find the other. Find the other. Find the other.

Who the hell was the other? What was wrong with me? I wail loudly as the words constricted and mashed together into two.

Trinity Colby. Trinity Colby. Trinity Colby.

My breathing halts. The boy took his only chance and sprinted away from me into the far woods. Obviously he didn’t care where he went as long as he was away from me, that damn witch. My prey had escaped me for the first time in decades.

All because of my younger sister.

nicely done, it definatly comes together more at the end, because now we know how trinity colby and abby tie together. i could not stop reading, even for a second. you are very good at holding the reader's attention and not letting go of it until your story's done. great work!
