       “Dude, did you hear…?”

“Killed…”

     “And Chelsea…”

Everywhere I turned, people were talking about Chelsea. Poor Chelsea. How horrible must her parents feel right now. Everyone was shaken that a person they had communicated with daily had been murdered. Even I was anxious. Tyler peers nervously over his shoulders as we walk down to the cafeteria as if the killer was going to jump out and stab him from behind like a ninja. We bought our food and sat down at our usual spot in the back, away from everyone else. Even though we were a good few feet away I could still hear that Chelsea’s murder was still the main topic on everyone’s mind.

“It creeps me out,” Tyler mutters, sane for once.

“Yeah, I know,” I sigh heavily. “Poor Chelsea.”

“No, I meant Mary-Lynn and Maddie. They don’t show up to practice and say they had ‘drama.’ Next thing we know a girl is murdered and that’s never happened around here before.”

“Dude,” I eye him seriously, “You’re adding two and two together to get seven. You can’t assume things. You don’t have proof.”

“I know; I’m just saying. Two identical girls pop up and next thing we know one of the most popular, annoying people is murdered,” he mutters into his Pepsi can.

I glare at him. The seat next to me is pulled out and said girl sits next to me.

“Which one are you?” I joke halfheartedly, “Maddie?”

“Mary-Lynn,” she says sharply. She doesn’t move; she sits up straight and stared at her sister across from her. Maddie takes the seat next to Tyler and smiles softly at me. They both wore a gray hoodie and dark jeans with Vans.

“Did you hear?” Tyler asks, “Chelsea’s been murdered.”

“Yeah, it’s still on the news.” Maddie said. She looks at me directly. I fidget uncomfortably.

“Do the police have any leads?” I ask. Mary-Lynn shakes her head.

“They think it’s her boyfriend who did it,” she said in a sharp tone. “He was taken for questioning yesterday and they don’t think it was him.”

“Then who killed her? Sure she was annoying as hell but who wanted her to die?”

“Your guess is as good as mine,” Maddie shrugs.

Tyler steals one of my French fries. “Did you guys hate her?”

I mentally face palm myself. Only Tyler would immediately swim up with the sharks instead of staying away for a while and then attack.

Maddie and Mary-Lynn exchange a look. “She annoyed me,” Maddie said, “But I wouldn’t want to kill her.”

   “I didn’t know her,” Mary-Lynn remarks.

A dark shadow looms over our table. We glance up to see Jason and his two friends behind him. He leans against the table with both hands to appear imitating. Neither of the twins looks up.

“Hey blondes,” Jason sneers. Maddie and Mary-Lynn calmly stare up at him. “Have any of you seen Alana? She told me she met one of you yesterday and now she’s not replying to her cell. I’m telling you right now to keep your psycho- killing hands off my girlfriend.”

“Who said we are the killers?” Mary-Lynn snaps. Under the table her hand clenches into a tight fist. “Is this because we’re new?”

“No. I heard all about you.” Jason smirks at her. “You’re the psycho b**** who lives in a mental hospital and your sister takes care of you so you must have given her your disease.” He scoffs in Maddie’s direction.

“So you’re saying that you think they murdered Alana?” Tyler points to the twins to confirm.

“Not just Alana. Both of them. Everyone’s saying so. She told me you threatened her.” His gaze locks onto Mary-Lynn.

“I would walk away right now,” Maddie says with a dangerous hint in her tone.

“I warned you,” he stalks off with his silent friends.

“What the hell was that?” Tyler exclaims, “Everyone’s accusing you of murder.”

“Are you saying you believe them?” Maddie stands up and she glares at me, “That we’re the killers as well? We’re your friends. We wouldn’t do that to you. We’d never do that.”

   “We didn’t say we-“I intervene.

“Just stay the hell away from us,” Mary-Lynn snaps loudly and the two storm out of the cafeteria. Stares followed them as well.

“Good job,” Tyler comments and sips his Pepsi. “You have two women ticked off at you.”

“Just in case you were wondering,” I growl, “You screamed that they are murderers, not me.”

“Mind if I stay at your place tonight?” he asks casually.

What the hell? “Dude, are you still believing-“

“Yes? Okay. Thanks for inviting me,” he winks. I sigh. There was no stopping Tyler from getting what he wanted. “Fine. Bring some movies.”

   “Of course.”
