Desk Mate

Desk Mate

A Poem by Yahallo
"

She wasn't really my friend but she wasn't just an acquaintance. What's this weird thing?

"
First day of freshman year
a girl sitting next to open window
asked me

"Do you wanna sit here?"
thin lips curved into a pressed smile
didn't hesitate and i told her "Hi"

Most of the time though we were quiet
listetning to chatter of all
the others

She'd move to other chairs
as our desk probably felt like
a desert

Blond long hair and big blue eyes
always wearing denim
maybe a bit shy

She moved away the next year
i find it absolutely strange
that i still miss her a bit

Our elbows would always brush
as we copied the notes in a rush
but that wasn't enough to fill the gap between us

We have never been friends
sadly that's the truth
just desk mates sharing the same classroom

That's true. I think I'm too nostalgic, which isn't good.

Thanks for reading though! .. read more
