La Ayuda

A Poem by Hannah Rose

We want to help, but we have to first connect. A short reflection on mission work.

The waves are crashing somewhere miles away from my mind. The rocks are black silhouettes against the sky, lit by the stars which sprinkle the island. The mountain disappeared hours ago and the land is flat. It is late but there are parties in the streets. Men and women make decisions to keep and break promises. Men and woman are laughing and men and woman are crying. The island prays and the music never stops playing. I am here but I am as far away as the sun.
