Beyond The Mirror

Beyond The Mirror

A Poem by Zeldablue

And as she gazed at her reflection
through the kaleidoscope of tears,
she prayed that one day
she would find the most exquisite
pattern in the mirror.

She hoped to piece together
all the imperfect fragments of
broken glass she saw of herself like
a jigsaw puzzle to reveal the
Barbie Doll that flashed continuously
in her cerebral cortex like a
thousand sapphire fireflies in July.

The ethereal ballerina
spinning in the back of her jewelry
box, surrounded by white diamonds
that she brushed ever so carefully and
obsessively, so that they radiated absolute
perfection through the darkness of her cave.

Finally, she thought.
Something about her was
completely and totally perfect.
Flawless and untouched in her
kaleidoscope mirror.

If only she knew how much beauty
she held within her.
The loveliness that coursed feverishly
through her veins,
entering her central nervous system
and pulsating to every
pressure point,
every muscle,
every single breath of life she took.

If only she knew what a dazzling,
blinding light she produced,
she would never again dissolve
into a raindrop.

For real beauty is found
beyond the mirror.
Beyond the ideal modelesque
imaged that society has so graciously
etched like a deceiving caricature in
our consciousness since birth.

Real beauty is
the softness of your heart
and
the sweetness of your soul.

It is the magic of your smile.
The warmth of your hug.
The soothing sound of your voice.

It is ever present,
and can be seen by everyone
if you choose to show it.

But always remember,
to look beyond the mirror,
because that's where the
real beauty is.

Thank you for entering my competition.

I love your description of her 'kaleidoscope of tears' it seems to brighten up a world so bleak.

Once again, thank you.

If everybody knew this perhaps vanity would disappear.
If you get a chance; watch Anne with an E on Netflix.
Anne was not a radiant beauty, but she found ways to cope.
The Netflix version strays far away from the original Anne of Green Gables, but still, it's not too bad.

So true. Real beauty lies inside. Beautiful poem. I really love the first part.
