We're alright

We're alright

A Poem by Abdul Aziz

The ache and din of cars and sundries
Or their apparitions, I cannot really say,
As they waft through the melting streets
Of Chennai on a rather brusque summer day,

Is drowned by this stately sigh of trees
And the considerate breeze that coos
And caresses the way the sunlight streams
Through the canopy of leaves that refuse

To touch each other 'neath the warm sun,
Sweating through their pores, no doubt,
In the humid heat that this city is proud of,
In a perpetual state of perspiration, or thereabout.

The little pleasures of life seem to disappear
Into your smile as we stand beneath the trees
And talk about our future, and the uncertainties
That life bestows - this general sense of unease

And tiredness that narrates its vicissitudes,
As days melt upon days in our city
And time slips through our fingers
While we meditate on its complexity.

Love finds a way they say, or is it life?
Either way, I believe it everyday, truly,
When I look into your eyes and they sing to me
A song of warmth, though unruly,

That slowly seeps and percolates
In me, aided by this bundle of love
That loves us more than I can bear,
And leaves me happy, that above
all, I can firmly say that we are alright!

Nicely described.

Your description sets the scene of life amidst the hustle and bustle of the streets of Chennai quite aptly. Having witnessed this and the heat on my own adventure to India, i can sure relate to your words.

Sometimes the pace and the heat can make one lose sight of what one truly possesses. And when we do stop and really contemplate in a moment of clarity, we understand truly that life is not so bad after all.

I enjoyed the write. Took me back to my time in your country. Nice work.

Your 'word-scope' of your daily life is beautifully depicted. I like the way the verses run into each other - it gives a sense of the continuity of time. The ending is very satisfactory, life or love, leaving you happy so that ' I can firmly say that we are alright'.

i despise heat, usually...i am a person who likes cold...

but i could get accustomed to what you describe here, and you really make the city come alive with your words...
i also see the birth of a baby...adding a life to a family....and just more love.
