Never Grow Up

Never Grow Up

A Poem by Ada Slowe

Your sleeping peacefully in your crib

I'm staring at you cause I can't look away

I listen to you breathing quietly

and it's the best sound in the world

I don't want you to ever grow up

You're walking and now and chasing the dog

In the kitchen and getting into things

It seems like just yesterday when you

were just a baby all you did was sleep and cry

you couldn't walk and you liked to cuddle

You're getting big and learning new things now

But I wish you didn't have to grow up

pretty soon you'll be going to school

You'll be making new friends

you'll have disagreements with your mother and think life is unfair

You;ll meet a girl and fall in love but

I don't want you to ever grow up....

yes the feel of being needed by your child feeding them holding them, bathing, and changing them, teaching them. Then out the blue this all changes from you being their world their hero they're moving and living their own lives having less and less time for you it seems this is from their growing up this they must do as always keep writing fellow writer.

Wow, I finally got the chance to see your writing. This is such beautiful written, well expressed. I think everyone of us wish we are still that kid. A part of ourselves fear getting old, losing our energy from our youth. Nice work Ms. Slowe

aww thank you
I know this feeling well. My sister had a baby two years ago and she is getting so big now. She is walking and talking and playing with our dog. I wonder what kind of world she will have with events like the Shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and the horrible rap of a young woman on a bus in India.

We have to treasure their innocence and protect them as much as we can. Shower them with love, support, and protection. Although we have to let them go one day, and let them carry their gifts like olive branches to new communities.
