Portrait Of Time

Portrait Of Time

A Poem by Adam Jordan Turner
"

This is pretty much one of my "let bygones be bygones" type poems. The phrase, "let the past sit for it's portrait" came from a book I was reading called The Heart Listens.

"

Portrait of Time

Sometimes we want so much, we’re blind to what we have
Sometimes we try so hard, our efforts become good laughs
Can we appreciate where we’ve been if we’re not where we’d like to be
Can we accept life for life, through bliss or strife, and set our hearts at ease

Let the past sit for it’s portrait, let the future have it’s time
Let lost lives be gone to their fortress, we cannot prevent goodbye’s
Let love in our hearts live forever, let our hearts forever live in love
Let the past sit for it’s portrait, till our souls be peaceful above

Why wonder what could have been, if we cannot see what is
Why expect more of life than we ourselves can give
If we stick to the path and play by the rules, will we ever be complete
If we live in terror from fear of error, is that living happily

Let the past sit for it’s portrait, let the future have it’s time
Let lost lives be gone to their fortress, we cannot prevent goodbye’s
Let love in our hearts live forever, let our hearts forever live in love
Let the past sit for it’s portrait, till our souls be peaceful above

We must live for our now’s , and remember our then, to truly see what’s next
We must love one another, and let love discover, for each heart, what is best
We shall praise all times, the harsh and benign, for each offer their grace
We shall not live in fear, no ending is near until hope has departed our race

Let the past sit for it’s portrait, let the future have it’s time
Let lost lives be gone to their fortress, we cannot prevent goodbye’s
Let love in our hearts live forever, let our hearts forever live in love
Let the past sit for it’s portrait, till our souls be peaceful above

Let the past sit for it’s portrait, a sun risen has got to set
Let lost lives be gone to their fortress, let their hearts be happy at rest
Let love in our hearts live forever, for ever goes many ways
Let the past sit for it’s portrait, night must come to welcome day

"Let love in our hearts live forever, let our hearts forever live in love"
-- I really like how you twisted the first part into the second, it's like love is in and around our hearts.

"Let the past sit for it's portrait, let the future have it's time"
-- A grammatical error, no apostrophe needed, you're literally saying "Let the past sit for it is portrait, let the future have it is time", and I'm sure you meant the other "its"

A nice poem, Adam, just keep using that pen!
