Anita

Anita

A Poem by Jodash

The first time I heard your voice I was just a teenager.
Your music inspired so much make out sessions in those dreamy times,
when I was discovering
the secret gardens of desire.

We were both so much younger.
Soul, Rhythm and blues for rainy weather. Your soft breath in those lush tones accompanied me on the road to high school..
and sang in my veins through neighbourhood walks in Port Harcourt
with my Alsatian dog, Bugsy.

My obsession for you,
was to the point that you manifest
yourself to me,
in the form of a local girl named Anita in those magical days.

She looked just like you even
Caressing your skin was pure heaven. Honey, the texture of your body against mine
sent us both to cloud nine.

I finally got the chance to inhale and taste you.
Call me crazy but some wild dreams do come true.

I use to catch the bus from Detroit's east side to Henry's night club on Fenkel St. way back in the late 70's to hear Anita Baker sing when she was with the group Chapter 8. She was just a kid....in fact we were all kids then..but you could just tell that she was destined for stardom. On one knight I remember in the audience was David Ruffin, Jerald Albright of the Manhattans, all of the Dramatics, Michael Henderson and Carl Carlton. Your linkage from her to something eternally personal is lush and heavy with dreams.....I love this.....dana

You are welcome.
I love Anita Baker. She is a dynamic singer, as is your tribute to her.
How about adding one of her song titles to yours.

I like the way you are celebrating a true legend of pure Black Music.
And I love the way you added that twist to see Anita Baker through a local girl you knew at the time also called Anita.

NICE WORDS!!!
WELL DONE!!!

Thank you...
Anita has a beautiful voice. She can play with soul and be sultry too. I'm sure she'd be nice to kiss. :)

Always nice when someone inspires you.
Even if she's been superimposed into someone else.
