Gabapentin
A poem by Alejandro Manuel Espinoza
Oh, Gabapentin
Take away my pain
Take away the introversion
Take away the insane
Oh, Gabapentin
Allow me to converse
With the beautiful socialites
That populate my universe
Oh, Gabapentin
I’m glad I found you hiding
Now my worries are disappearing
My anxiety subsiding
And the apathy…
Oh, the apathy
Wards away their sympathy
Their sympathy
That so punishes me
Floats away when I am dizzy
From the rush of
Gabapentin.
But when it subsides
When Gabapentin is no longer above
It is like becoming lonely
And saying goodbye to someone you love
Oh, Gabapentin
Don’t leave me here
For when you’re gone
I don’t want to appear
In public places
With all the people and their different faces
Speeding along, passing me by
Keeping me as distant as the sky
Oh, Gabapentin
Take hold of me
In this place and time
I cannot see
The love for people
And for myself
I am alone on a dusty shelf.
