My dreams were consumed by you

My dreams were consumed by you

A Poem by Amy Vaughn

 My dreams were consumed by you;

The smile that made my stomach erupt

In all of those cliché butterflies, that made

Love seep through my blood and into my

Organs and into my eyes and into my thoughts

And into my hugs and kisses -

My dreams were consumed by you;

Seeing your eyes that made my body shake

And quake like the earth’s grounds breaking

Open and my love pouring from the gaps

Flooding the world and drowning us and

Consuming us and dooming us -

My dreams were consumed by you;

For it was you I loved, for it was you I

Would lie awake for, for it was you that

I would do anything for. Jump? I will

Jump, I will leap, I will fall, I will break,

I will die, I will live, I will fly -

I dreamt again last night; my legs were intertwined

in white crisp sheets, my arms surrounding

your warm body with your lips pressed

against my forehead and I smiled,

opening my eyes to meet yours

But it was not you

It was him

And my smile

grew wider

For I realized

I was finally
