There Was Never A Father

There Was Never A Father

A Poem by Angelica

A beautiful sunny day;
Happy and carefree
Frolicking by the river’s edge.

Everything turns around.
A simple mistake;
A slip of the rocky steps.

Crashing in the water;
No oxygen reaches the lungs;
Yelps and screams echo in the distant breeze.

“Oh Father please, please save me.”
The wind howls as no one is seen;
Nothing is heard.

Gasping for air, slipping under
Hands reach for the savior,
But no one grabs the needing hands.

Minutes go by;
Silence is present.
A corpse decorates the river’s bottom

For there was no one to save a life,
There was never anyone;
Just a belief.
