Old Fashioned Gentleman..by Michael

Old Fashioned Gentleman..by Michael

A Poem by Michael Reisman

The words please and thank you never left my
Vocabulary. I am still an old fashioned gentleman.
A chair will always be pulled up for you
And so shall I open the door. I listen rather than talk,
For what you say means a lot to me. I am still
An old fashioned gentleman. The time was right after
A romantic dinner with candles and flowers
Adorning the table. A small black box was opened
As I dropped down on knee to propose to you.
I spoke not a word and just listened.
Your answer came with a smile along with happy
Tears running down your cheeks. My response was
Exactly the same. I opened the door for you at our
Wedding reception, then pulled up a chair.
Just an old fashioned gentleman...

I really like your use of visuals throughout the poem, they help to tell the story. Some aspects I think could be elaborated on, such as the love story being told or the story behind the speaker and why he decides to act this way. The stanzas threw me off a little bit, but thats never been my forte. Keep Writing!

The imagery of the character although not specified is really beautiful. The whole demeanor of the story is graceful, making the reader feel something. I think you did very well at stirring up emotions and imagery in the shortness of this poem!
