For a while, Jack considered entertaining the thought of telling Amelia
how he felt, but then he supposed that showing her would be the better
alternative. After much persuasion, she had agreed to spend a day with
him after school, just to hang out. Jack smiled at her, watching her
closely, trying to see through her words and directly into her mind,
though it wasn’t working, she was better than she thought at hiding
things from him. “Jack, I’m kind chilly.” Amelia said as they stood
together in the empty hallway. Jack blinked and looked down at her, and
then at the black jacket he held in his hand, he smiled and put it
around her shoulders without saying a word to her, simply enjoying her
company. “Thank you.” She said in the high pitched tone she always used
while talking to him. She looked up at him and smiled, staring at him
with those eyes that sent a chill through Jack’s spine, he stared back
in her eyes and let her gaze wash over him and fill him with a warmth
that was not unfamiliar when she was around. “You’re quite welcome,
Amelia.” Jack was surprised at the way her name rolled off of his own
tongue, with more affection than he had ever talked to anyone with. Jack
smiled and slid his arms around her in a hug, holding her for a moment
before letting go, “Thanks for hanging out with me.” Jack grinned as she
started walking, grabbing his arm and pulling him along with her. “You
realize you’re never going to get this jacket back, don’t you?” She
asked, smiling and letting go of his arm. Jack laughed, smiling at her.
He hadn’t felt this happy in a long time. “Oh, you think I won’t?” Jack
winked at her as she took a few steps away from him, and then burst out
in a run down the hallway. “Not if you can’t catch me Jack!” She
laughed, turning a corner into the darkened auditorium, Jack following
her closely. Jack grabbed the sleeve of the jacket and pulled, but
Amelia pulled back against him, letting it fall from her shoulders and
grabbing the other sleeve, “My Jacket!” She said, giggling and looking
at Jack. He smiled, pulling back once more. Amelia’s feet came out from
under her; she slipped to the ground and looked up at Jack, still
holding onto the Jacket for dear life. She pulled him down with her and
smiled, letting go of the fabric, worried she might have torn it. Jack
smiled, sitting on the ground for a moment, “Thank you.” He said,
mocking her earlier tone. She smiled and slid close to him, putting her
arms around him, “I really don’t want to go today. I’m enjoying this
time with you.” Jack whispered in her ear, hugging her back. Amelia
didn’t let go, and Jack had no desire to make her let go. He smiled
contently, still holding on to her, he didn’t want the moment to end.
Amelia smiled and hugged him tighter for a moment, “This moment is
perfect.” Amelia whispered, and Jack smiled wider. “It really is.” He
whispered back, nothing could ever ruin this moment in his mind. He had
truly never been happier.

I have to say, I definitely like Jack. And besides some of the conventions, it was nice
