Oreo Cookies and Death

Oreo Cookies and Death

A Poem by Jason Henry

I wanted to see how destroyed I looked.

I'll never know the pleasure oncoming traffic felt.

"At least our lives aren't as bad as this"

As the walking, talking stool approaches.

He couldn't help it.

He was conjuring a poem in his head.

But he couldn't personify the drizzle

Further than a vicious sting;

A medium to hide tears which would not fall.

If only it rained heavier.

Street lights christen wet pavement

Under intermediate black firmament.

Simultaneous drops sound the chorus

On asphalt; In mine head.

So depressing, so lovely.

Has my heart turned so frozen as my toes?

No, nevermind.

I've started to cry now.

I don't know what but something about that title is amusing to me: "Oreo cookies and death". Of course it made me laugh.I loved the poem especially the first two lines. "I wanted to see how destroyed I looked. I'll never know the pleasure uncoming traffic left". Nice choice of words. Good job again.
