The Other Me

The Other Me

A Poem by Ashley

what was it that you were looking for?

have you found it yet?

you found me but i wasn’t enough.

i tried so hard to be the woman

you thought you wanted.

the woman that i thought i wanted to be but

at 18 i just didn’t know how.

a man of your age should have known better.

the illicit love we shared

in sleazy motel rooms

was nothing more

than a game you played.

i complied, following your rule book.

but in the end, i wasn’t what you wanted.

you may have been the older man,

i may have been the other woman,

but i have found what i so desperately was searching for.

in losing you

i found

me.

I can feel the sadness in this. Very well written

Your last line says it all! How poignant and how often true that when we experience a loss, we find another part of ourselves. Well-done!!!

Realistic heartbreak...telling way of how one uses another. A vivid insight on karma.
