~FiveA Poem by Ali Mayne
A numeric account, remembering my first relationship.
I met you on a Wednesday.
Saw you again on Thursday; we watched a film and had our first kiss.
You waved me goodbye, midday on Friday having kissed all night.
Saw you on Saturday down the pub.
You asked me out on Sunday...
And I said yes.
The end of November...
Through December, January, February and March until the end of April,
the duration of our relationship.
Plus five days.
They were five months and five days I'll never forget.
We had good times, bad times;
Amazing times, sad times;
Eventful times, heartbreaking times...
The quid pro-quo of the standard relationship.
In that space of time I experienced things I'd never felt before,
And now, thanks to that experience,
I feel wiser and ultimately, experienced.
Just over a year ago this had not happened:
And a year on, although we're not together, we're okay with eachother.
That's something not a lot of exes have.
I have the memories, and when I want to, I look back fondly.
There are times when I wish I had acted differently, or taken different actions,
but that's all part of life: "Sliding Doors" is not reality.
And though it's in the past, I can remember.
Although looking to the future can be daunting,
Somewhere out there, there will be others.
Another soul to share my life with.
