Avalanche

Avalanche

A Poem by Alisa Js

it's haunting my every reflection and dream
silently surrounding without tears
always there,
why can't I forget
that door, pressed but not opened

wondering if perhaps, I was simply attempting to stay relevant
caught up in some fool's ecstasy of belonging
of being part of something long lasting, maybe even forever.
guess I should have known
that option doesn't seem to remain with me
spots don't change
leopards can't lie,
memories fade and grow short

and I?

right back where it all began
underneath some mindless avalanche
inside midnight's magical headroom
where fairy tales don't snap
and
everything is sealed around the chosen few

if only for those loose grains of time
we did revel as one
believed in the scenes
lived as nothing else mattered

I will never  ...

:: thank you for sharing your thoughts, alisa... i agree with you... in the true love sense that you express, i have only loved and continue to love one person... i might have thought i loved others before him but those instances turned out to be delusions... their only purpose was to point to what love is not... rather than what it is... (for me that is -- can't say about how it was for them :P)

Aloha,

My thoughts for what they may or not be worth.

I am inclined to believe that true love lasts forever. Love...without conditions or judgement. Simply stated, love is in and of itself, pure...true to itself. True love. People may change and grow apart, which happens..but the love they once shared was real for that season of time.

When there are conditions or restrictions placed on love, it ceases to be love and morphs into a twisted type of manipulation. Sadly, far too many mistake this experience for love and passion and it is anything but. :-(

I think a person can love another just because. It doesn't necessarily have to be returned for love to be validated, in my never to be humble opinion.

And lastly, regarding family members....in my experience, simply sharing DNA means nothing, but rather when one's actions and behavior are determined by the heart, that is everything.

Thank you for your comments and time. I do appreciate them so!

Alisa

:: hey alisa...

:: i have an older brother who denies my existence... pretends i simply do not exist... it's a metaphorical "ghatt shradh"... "ghatt shradh" means performing the last rites of a person while the person is still alive... in ancient india, it was a ritual that was actually performed... and many times it was done to get rid of daughters who were considered too rebellious... in circa 2013, it is done metaphorically... silently... but it is done... :: i have let go of trying to communicate with him... and i haven't let go of everything that he considers "rebellious"...

:: in romantic relationships, our ability to love unconditionally gets tested... out of all the people i have dated, there is only one person who i truly love... (but this is based on my concept of love and i realize that it could be a concept which is unique to me)... my personal opinion about relationships which don't last is that we think it's love but it's not love... love is that which lasts... but again... it is not my intention to impose this definition on anyone... this is merely my perspective based on my experiences and this is merely my expression based on my knowledge of the english language... which is not my second but possibly third or fourth language... what i'm saying is that i could be completely botched up in my communication... not just in my understanding of the concept of "love"... so please don't take my word for anything... :P

Aloha serah,

Thank you for your time and comments. I wonder if the reciprocity applies in family situations...just because another may share your DNA, that doesn't necessarily guarantee that he or she will love you the same, you know what I mean? Even more so, I think this pertains to romantic relationships as they grow and mature as time moves forward. Sadly, not everyone grows at the same pace or remains on the same page...

Sometimes memories grow short and fade away, in spite of any ongoing reality of kindness and compassion...

:: very beautiful and moving poetry, alisa... the images are extremely compelling... i found the second stanza really, really vivid in the way it maps that emotion... that question which tears into us... and sometimes even tears us... :: there are times when i wonder interminably about the significance of reciprocity in love... is reciprocity an essential ingredient of love ? ... i dunno... i'm not sure... maybe everyone is different and everyone's definition of love as well as reciprocity is different...

as in a relationship which we imagine is supposed to last forever...but then it doesn't...and yet, that idea of being part of something lasting...it is very sad when we lose that...when we lose the belief in forever and till death do us part...it is a stark reality that hits us...

i really like the way you present that in this poem...leastwise...that is how it speaks to me, because of my experience.

nicely done.
