Ever After

Ever After

A Poem by Alisa Js

the familiar sound of your keys in the lock
told me you were home
or not,
a dream within a dream I found myself
standing there
I knew you then.
I remember you now
and I guess I'll always wonder
about the open door
that never completely shut

sitting on the edge of time
we watched the universe slide by,
quietly we made our plans
one without the other

if I knew then what I know now
would we have still ...

standing here with open arms
trying to comprehend

A very powerful poem that can give rise to many different thoughts.
A person's presence is still very much palpable even after he has left you.
That phase in your life will always leave a void. The door will be ajar and won't shut completely.
I think even if you had known "then" what was to happen "now", you would still have done it the same way.

Alisa, it was my pleasure and you are welcome. :-)
What beautiful imagery Alisa. I see two lovers dangling their feet into Time as if it's a brook.
The line 'home or not' is very affecting. Some people put their key in the lock and open that door day after day but never fully come home.
Powerful tragic writing my friend from across the way.

Dreams can feel so real at times that it becomes necessary to check if in fact they are true. It takes very little to trigger those memories and then you are swept away again. Good write, Alisa

~ i didn't just read this poem, dear alisa... i lived it... i could hear the sound of that key... ~ very beautifully written... extremely poignant work... ~ i think (and this is just my personal opinion) that in an ideal situation, both people need to understand the other's journey... and so in the context of this post and story it narrates... the narrator and the other person would have to have the same kind of understanding of life even at this point in time independently... in order to understand each other...
