Almost

Almost

A Poem by Alisa Js

it was me
in the back of a very long  line
a stampede exactly
at just the right time

some place rustic, along a mountain side
where life had meaning
in another world,
in another time

this ruckus was a bit more than I actually bargained for
especially when help was the objective, initially
and yet, I've been here almost eight years
feels like forever
and I thought you would wait

like all the times we planned and discussed
laughing for ages
knowing this was real
I believed it then,
I believe it now

guess that makes one of us.

quiet nights on the ocean front
it used to mean something
now, it means nothing
and I don't even care for the view
without you

what does it matter
when it was almost...

Alisa Js,
"Almost" speaks of waiting, hoping, "8 years you waited." It is always interesting to me how our minds work. We remember! "Where life had meaning..in another world." Even when it would maybe be better not to remember.
Why is this? Sharing caring emotions- letting down our guard...it is like we let the other person get close. "Quiet nights on the ocean front."
People need one another. We want affirmation; to love and be loved.
Such a risk to love, but we do.
Beautiful and vulnerable poem.
blessings to you.........Kathy

The sadness, no, poignancy in this is palable. It leaks tears, gracefullness and memories.
I too see that a film noir voice over would fit this perfectly.

Wow - what a line
'I guess that makes one of us' - as if delivered by Bacall herself to the lead in a smoke-filled piano bar.
Such style and grace here Alisa.
Beautifully bittersweet.
