Reflections of another time and space

let us take this thought and tuck it behind
the left ear
somehow that seems right
and you know how I always like to be right,
but this is not about me
it's never me
even if the facts suggest otherwise.
the world goes on around us
all around us
as those
unspoken words hang
around the hint of a frown
hiding just beyond the smile that waits

he took his half-smoked cigarette
carefully placing it back in the remaining box of ten
deciding to save it for another place
when there's more time

do you remember those days
when we laughed and cried
tensions pulled us to the highest
those emotions of that long ago moment
screaming for immediate release
and yet, we survived
we're here
and alive,
still...

Random recollections, is a great title which is the right name for the onward string of experiences which this poem speaks: Life. How do we maneuver? Amazing, really when we consider all the the implications and complications.... and, oh the wonder!
