The Sewer Rat and The Field Mouse.

The Sewer Rat and The Field Mouse.

A Poem by Tinotenda Nyevedzanai

Poem - ATC

"
"Hello there" said Mr Rat to a field mouse
who did not reply, rather rudely in fact -
Impatient and ill-mannered though the rat was
But even he would not treat another like that.

The mouse was tiny in size,
Compared to the rat who was humongously fat
With big meany greedy green eyes.
Blinking beedly back at him not a sound squeaked
A Sin The Rat came quickly to despise.

"Oi I was talking to you" He prodded little mouse,
Grinning rotten teeth plaqued heavily with lies
"Answer me!"
He snapped and splattered sewer spit
pouring poor mousey in flies.

The mouse wiped herself down, turned to
the rat with a frown "I am sorry but do you mind?
I am in the middle of watching my house get mowed down.
So could you pretty please stand aside?"

Belittled the rat felt ridiculed he wouldn't take none of that.
What's with these mice thinking they own
"The streets" anyway?
Sniggering at her loss he teased and kicked her down
to the ground and again once she'd hit the floor,
"Oh," Snarled the rat enjoying this too much,
"So you're not going to ignore me anymore?"

"Please pardon my oppression but surely you have heard the
Expression to be as quiet as a mouse?" The helpless rodent cried.
"It's too late for that now you hurt my feelings! You didn't care!
I'm going to trample and stamp on you and leave you to die!"

The mouse finally squeaked, she was weeping
She was weak, she retreated into her fear unable to
speak incapable of standing herself back up to her feet
She failed to and kept falling she needed some help
But cursed as a mouse she did not know how to yelp

The Rat looked behind him to see her struggling
At first with pride until reality sunk in,
But it was too late to go back now and do Something,
He had already walked too far away, back to the sewer
Back to the drain.

A sad story about a rat and a mouse that has been inspired, perhaps. by something much larger and much more real. There is a lot going on in this poem where the strong dominate the weak. A nice write.
