My Selfie.

My Selfie.

I took a selfie at the top of the pyramid,
My greatest achievment, My smile big and proud
But when I looked at the resultng photograph
I saw another pyramid in the background.

Over my shoulder I glanced
But I saw nothing there,
What had happened to my iphone?
Did it need to be repaired?

I snapped another thirty
Each came out the same,
But different.
Every take the second pyramid
Grew bigger hiding my face altogether.

I showed the other tourists
But they couldn't see what was in front of them,
"It's behind us!" I would say,
But they all looked at me like I was crazy,

So I ventured off on my own,
In search for the hidden stones
I seemed to walk forever
I became dirty, isolated I was
never going to find what I was looking for.

My phone died rather quickly,
I ate what I could find around me
Nothing could deter this mission
When I stopped talking I learned to listen.

It was strange, deranged possibly I had
finally gone insane.
But I seemed to accept that fact,
For I felt amazing.

And there I stood as my self
Over seeing the entire world
On top of a pyramid that no one
Would ever get to see on Facebook.

I tend to notice people going to places and taking selfies whether it is traveling to an exotic country or going on a vacation to a beach place. I never see any panoramas, but people taking pictures of themselves as the highlight of the trip (shouldn't it be the other way around?). It's like the Pyramid is nothing without me in front of it!

I loved this write. It is with deep meaning and truth. And very probable. What can we but do without them damn smartphones? We panic, we get lost, and cannot gps the place we want to go to eat to. So we end up losing ourselves, but as a result, we find ourselves. We see clearer and we see what is beyond us selfish beings...the beauty of our surroundings in the stillness of nature.

I watched an RL Stine episode like this but it was a ghost and would only show up in the picture. This was an interesting piece.

Intriguing poem and probably too good for Facebook :) the imagination involved draws me in and has me searching too, then when we stop everything and just listen within, that's where the pyramid resides in our heart and soul, great work Ally :)
