I Love You Because...

I wrote this poem after meeting one of my very close friends. It is because of them that I really delved deep into writing.

I love you because when I’m with you,

I’m awake-

And I mean me,

The true me,

The me who has been locked away in my heart,

Held by the chains of society

And expectations

And fear

And false knowledge.

I thought I knew who I was-

I thought I was going to change the world through equations and atoms.

But through your eyes I’ve learned that I can’t save a world I know so little about.

And oh, how little I truly know.

But with you,

With you,

The chains break and the true me arises.

The me who spends hours reading poetry,

The me who sits lost in the world of her mind.

The me who finds beauty in the words and pages

And the way the sun sets

And the trees move.

With you,

I believe,

Truly believe,

That every wardrobe will lead me to a far off world, a world held with in your eyes.

With you,

I am free.

I let myself,

My true self,

Breath,

And see,

And feel.

Thank you love,

For showing me what it is to live.

For showing me what it sot be fearless.

For showing me how to be infinite.
