28. Crutches

*The ten members of the BAU are sitting at the conference table. JJ is just about to brief them about the new case when I limp in, double-sided with crutches*

 

Me: Hey, guys.

 

Mayisha, Megan and Jocelyn: Olivia!

 

*I sit down stiffly at the table, everyone else on the team warmly welcoming me back. I look up at the projector when I’m done thanking and smiling at them all. As always, bodies are shown. There are four of them, all with different scars and so on. One has been cut at the wrists and bled out that way, while another has been hung, the third has been suffocated, and the final fourth has been severely burned*

 

JJ: Four teenagers that consist of the ages of eleven, fourteen, fifteen, and eighteen have been murdered in Denver, Colorado. Their bodies were dumped in multiple places, but none that might have been a significance to the UnSub or UnSubs, such as trash bins and some woman’s empty pool. It looked almost as if they were in a hurry to dump the bodies. Each body was found almost a week after they died, so we’ve only identified the first body so far. The Denver police thought they had a hand on this situation, but after they found out they didn’t, they called us in to take a stab.

 

Gideon: Look at the slash marks on the first victim’s wrist. It’s positioned at an angle almost like suicide.

 

Me: How do we even know that it’s the same UnSub?

 

JJ: They all have the same tattoo inflicted postmortem. *presses a button on her remote, and a close-up of the tattoo is shown. It’s a snake coiled around a sword*

 

Reid: Is that a symbol for something?

 

Prentiss: Why are you asking us? You’re the one know knows everything.

 

Reid: Despite what you may think, I don’t know everything.

 

Mayisha: Reid is God. Reid knows everything.

 

Me: Correction: Matt is God.

 

Reid: Matt?

 

Me: Never you mind.

 

Reid: I’ve been replaced by “Matt”…

 

Hotchner: Back to what Gideon said. The slash marks on the wrist DO look like suicide. Could these all be suicide?

 

JJ: Then how would you explain the tattoo?

 

Morgan: Someone could have done it for them.

 

Hotchner: True, but four suicides with the SAME tattoo postmortem and their bodies DUMPED? This is irregular. I think we should check this out.

 

Me: Agreed. *attempts to get up* Ow.

 

Hotchner: You are NOT coming with us.

 

Me: What? No!

 

Hotchner: If you insist on helping, then you will stay here with Garcia.

 

Me: No! I’m coming with you!

 

Reid: You can’t help it. You’re not cleared to fly.

 

Me: I don’t care.

 

Hotchner: Smith, I am your superior. I insist you stay here.

 

Me: But… *is defeated* All right.

 

Garcia: *grins evilly* You’re my b***h, now.

 

Morgan: Now you can’t get captured again.

 

Me: It wasn’t my fault.

 

Megan: You practically jumped into the guy’s arms.

 

Me: EXCUSE ME?!

 

Megan: You heard me.

 

Hotchner: No use fighting…

 

Me: I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE HIM OUT!

 

Mayisha: So much so that you got bagged.

 

Me: I got WHAT?

 

JJ: It IS over and done with…

 

Jocelyn: NO MORE PUTTING YOURSELF IN DANGER!

 

Megan: THAT’S THE SECOND TIME YOU’VE GOTTEN SHOT IN A LESS THAN A WEEK!!

 

Me: WELL IT’S NOT MY FAULT I’M VULNERABLE!

 

Mayisha: YES IT FLUPPING IS!!

 

Morgan: GUYS!

 

Mayisha, Megan, Jocelyn and I: Sorry…

 

JJ: *looks sympathetically at Joss* Since we have Olivia here, we have a replacement in the field…

 

Jocelyn: Oh no. Don’t tell me it’s…

 

Jack: *walks in* JOCELYN I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

 

Jocelyn: Oh GAWD NO! *runs*

 

*While the rest of the team leaves for the plane, I go into Garcia’s office*

 

Garcia: You’re ready to work with the genius of computers?

 

Me: *sighs* I miss the field…

 

Garcia: DON’T KNOCK IT, SWEETHEART!

 

Me: *backs away* Okay, okay? *stiffly* Ow…
