Surrender

Surrender

A Poem by Lauren Beth

Waving my white flag, I’ll wave it for you

Tired of the battles, sick of the war
My sword has broken in two
Jaded by the constant conflict
Consumed and overwrought

Waving my white flag, I’ll wave it for you

Mind weary and body worn
Nothing left for me to construe
Give it my all, until there is nothing left
Nothing left  for me to give at all

Waving my white flag, I’ll wave it for you

Now yours to govern and rule
Must retreat, ready to say adieu
To the everlasting struggle and duel
Ready to trust again in our peace

Waving my white flag, I’ll wave it for you

I quit, I succumb to your reasoning
Reminisce, we were one of the few
Taking off the amour I felt I needed
Stepping off the battlefield of love

Waving my white flag, I’ll wave it for you

I wish it was this easy. To wave a white flag and have peace. I like this poem. I could feel the emotion of sadness and need for war to end. I like the story and the ending. Maybe a white flag is a needed symbol to show the desire of the people who are tire of war and violence. A outstanding poem. You made your point.

'Sometimes a Great Notion' K Kesey.....Never give in, never. You lose part of yourself every time that flags is pulled out.

This gets a bit repedative but it seems like u meant it to be that way.... i like repetitions some times but i'd take out the last "Waving my white flag, I'll wave it for you" - ed

Rhythmic like a song, your words confess a surrender.. letting go of those things that have hurt and held you back... release.. peace.. And in it now will hopefully come a fullness of love not yet known.

it happens in many relationships. Your use of the "white flag/ battle" analogy adds to the effect of your point. Very nicely written

mmm....I really like the way you use the refrain "Waving my white flag, I'll wave it for you" in this piece. Yes, I agree with the other comments here in that you deal really well with a common experience. And sometimes waving the white flag doesn't mean that someone has won and someone else lost. As the act of waving the white flag usually gives way to dialogue - the key to resolving any conflict.....nice write..:)

I loved this. It was so conceptual and so unique, and evoked such powerful emotions. The metaphor of the white flag was beautiful, and I liked the fact that you continued to come back to the line 'Waving my white flag' throughout your poem. A very well-written poem full of strength and heart. Nice work,

surrender, retreat. being utterly tired of fighting! why must the constant battles and war continue, seemingly without end! i've understand too well the feeling of futility, that hopelessness that makes you wanna quit. lovely write!

Differences will inevitably be there in a relationship, it is with parent and child, neighbour and neighbour .. so we can't expect love to conquer all differences. We're human beings, we think, feel differently, surely agreeing non stop means that maybe one controls the other .. maybe. The white flag's the last resort but also the most wretchedly logical one.

What an intense but thoughtful, finely written post.
