When beauty is.... only skin deep!

When beauty is.... only skin deep!

A Poem by andrew mitchell

To peel back the skin
broke the seal of reason
entering the realm of nightmares
dark shadows molting;
a hideous slice of morbidity begins
on the undercovers exposed
an unkind soul grinning.

"a hideous slice of morbidity begins
on the undercovers exposed
an unkind soul grinning."
Excellent wording and indeed beneath our flesh and our utter existence if we got see ourselves for how we really look like , would we be happy?

Reminds me of a precursor to a poem I read awhile back about true love I think it says a lot

No problem
'Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder' trope is turned on it's head here. If humanity had the ability to look into itself we'd all be terrified because mankind has done terrible things for centuries.

This is quite a macabre poem. Excellently worded with great metaphor use and frightening imagery...""peel back the skin..on the undercovers exposed..an unkind soul grinning"-Poe would laud you! Beware of the superficial artifice-you may be " entering the realm of nightmares"..Aaaaagh!
