The collectors!

The collectors!

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Knock Knock!
Who is it?
Its takeaway!
I didn't order pizza!
Who is this?
Let us introduce ourselves
we are Mortality and Time.
We have come to collect you.
But I'm not ready!
I'll never be ready!
Sorry, but according to our calculations
your time is well over due.
But.... but ... but...
Come on Time is ticking
hurry up now!
You're not immortal you know!
Can't we make a deal?
You can try the Devil
but there's already been
a Dorian Gray.

Haha haha thanks for the smile Pete
Cleverly contrived, created and written, andrew! The diaglogue suggests that much more than mere words because the caustic wit (I think you intended) shows. Guess, as you suggest, we're ever hopeful winners but always end as the losers! Good old Dorian..

Ah, Dorian Gray....whose portrait aged as he stayed young. T'was a great story and always good to see a reference to it in a poem. Time keeps moving and we can not stop it, can we? When it is our time, we must go....no ifs or buts about it. Good one, Andrew. Lydi**
