Only water under the bridge separated two land masses.

Only water under the bridge separated two land masses.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Above the water line,
two separate islands unite
unbeknown in landmass joined;
female and male
in love come together.

But beneath the water
under the bridge
are the tentacles of two
different organisms
each domineering in their connection,
each tugging and pulling away
their very existence in the balance,
to control but hang in there
in a union together.

This one says a great deal about relationships, Andrew....

Your use of the waterline is a fine metaphor; that line that separates the two entities and realities of lovers. Above the surface the bliss is easily apparent, yet always below that surface the true struggle of a union of two people takes place. The balance is finely spread, the clashing of different types of the same organism always occurs, yet the truest pairings will always overcome the struggle and remain united.

I am sure all of us can identify with your words and metaphors here, Andrew. For our waterline struggles are unique yet always similar. Keep up the struggle. Always. If you believe in it.

An excellent poem.
