Chivalry Is Not Dead

Chivalry Is Not Dead

A Poem by Amber S. Hays

Chivalry is lost in translation.
Beneath wasted breaths on cigarettes,
And sloppy screams of youth.

It’s beneath the hand of your father the first time he struck you,
And on the tongue of the one you loved first,
with underwear pushed beyond your knees with someone you always meant to go to bed with.

It’s on the pastor’s gospel as he sings of complicated simplicity,
and between the handshakes of conquering jealousy.
It’s right between our eyes;
blurred vision yet made for purpose.

Chivalry is not dead.
It’s just lost.
Lost in the upkeep of burning stars and telescopes.
Lost in “I love you” and “I’m sorry”.

This is AWESOME. Maybe not finished yet, though. I get a feeling that there is more to be said. Either way, I love the concept and all the imagery. Great work here!
