Loneliness

A simple short poem based on the concept of company.

Loneliness

Company,

It’s what we think we should have

But it is not what we want.

 

Think,

You enjoy the silence of being alone,

The gentle rhythm of rain on the window.

 

Listen,

The steady beat of your heart

The only noise loud enough to fill the emptiness of being by yourself.

 

Notice,

The way that you pick at your fingernails

When somebody enters the room.

 

Calm,

The only appropriate word to use

When you’re alone.
