An Old Acquaintance

An Old Acquaintance

A Poem by amemizu8
"

I read a poem about death and this is where it took me.

"
Of Death there is much I do not know
We only played once, a long time ago
The day was summer, warm, sunny, and bright
All of a sudden it turned cold, to night
The shadows swallowed every beam
A nightmare devouring a dream
He appeared to me then, you see
A figure cloaked in misery
Just take me by the hand, he said
I'll walk you through the land of the dead
We strolled through meadows built of decay
No matter how I tried, I couldn't look away
He talked of pain and suffering
Of all the sorrow he could bring
He looked so sad I realized
Torment swimming in his eyes
He did not want to be the end
Of every creature, bee to man
He wanted to dance in the light
Not roam the world bringing fear and blight
I turn to him and swallow deep
For poor Death, I wanted to weep
I begged him then to come with me
To bathe in the sun by the sea
He shook his head once, then twice
Ahhh that sounds oh so nice
But sadly there I cannot go
They need me here, down below
It's time for you to go, he said
Now close your eyes and clear your head
Take a breath hold it deep
This time with you, I'll always keep
