Cookie Monster and the Incredible Shrinking Man

Cookie Monster and the Incredible Shrinking Man

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

a recurring nightmare.

"
It's a funny nightmare for a grown woman. She used to like Grover, running from one end of the living room to the back end of the kitchen, "Here!" she would exclaim, and touch the cupboard and run back. Whatever it was that cookie monster did to end up in her nightmares, she cannot remember. Only one day, he travelled there, and took up residence, deep in her psyche. He is entrenched. Enter the Incredible Shrinking Man -- an old black and white movie she used to watch on WDIV Duluth TV. It scared the hell out of her, especially the part where he had to fight the spider. Mix the two together in the mind of a 5 year old and you have a recipe for a recurring nightmare that has spanned nearly forty years:

"Yum yum, me gonna get some,
A bite of that little one --
 use my shrink ray gun".

 Zip zap it's all done,
 now I am tiny,
 can't you see?
 "Somebody help me!
 way down here,
 right by the plug,
 yes that's me,
 I'm Grover;
 no bigger
 than a bug!"

 Big blue hands reach
 from above me --
 "No please!"
 And just like that,
 it's all over
 no more Grover,
 that Cookie Monster,
 he's insane,
 He just flushed me

                          down
                               the
                                    drain.

Ok I'm convinced.. so are you the reason they put the cookie monster on a diet??? Now all you hear about is Elmo, Elmo, Tickle Me Elmo... phetttttt :-p. How can I find cookies now KL?? He would always help me find where the cookies were hidden.... I want my monster.. er... red regaining his composer.... all I can say is, your poem is very, aaah... tasty... ;0)

If I find him I will tell him to give you cookies and not haunt you... pssst look under your pillow every morning... thanks KL... ~~red(goingtobuysomechocolatechipcookies)zone

Thanks so much.:)
That is one interesting nightmare, the human psyche plays with our reality by mixing it with fantasy till it is a swirl of madness.

Oops I forgot to comment on this one. I think the weirdest part is the fact that it hasn't left me.

Writing unusual, off the wall poetry requires a steady mind, so whacked you are not. You put me in the minds eye of the child and the fears they entertained and ran away with them. I remember The Incredible Shrinking Man, particularly when a cat was trying to eat him, also he always seemed to be fending off spiders with knitting needles etc. Hope this doesn't bring it all back :-)
