she has the Knack

she has the Knack

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

inspired by Momzilla's take on today's technology, and this song I ran across in a search

"
blue pom poms on the roller skates,
and a goofy smile on my face,
I can't help it, I still bounce
when I hear this song --
not stuck in the past,
but grounded in its reality.

I am a child of the seventies
bell bottom jeans and eight track
gave way to legwarmers and cassettes,
big hair became even bigger
as shoulder pads dwarfed our
impossibly lean bodies ...

women got smarter and richer
and some men got lazy and mean,
Blondie to Prince, Madonna and Nirvana
and being cool to have NO SELF ESTEEM
so many things to learn
so many things I have seen --

wouldn't have it any other way,
born on the cusp of a revolution,
I still remember when phones
required a cord, and you had
to lick a stamp and an envelope and
not just press send.

Funny, but the thing I remember, the most, is the platform shoes, which the cola war was fought, between Pepsi, Coke and Dr Pepper, during the 1970s. Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson, in the Hardy Boys, on Sunday nights. And Linda Carter (my heroine) protraying Wonder Woman. With the emergence of punk and new wave music. Thank you, KL, for the trip down memory lane.

Oh Parker Stevenson, yes, thanks for that one.

Your welcome, KL.
I'd like to think this is the song I was conceived to but knowing my dad it was probably more like Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash. In my opinion the fashion of the seventies was no where near as lame as the 80's but what do I know. I hang around in shorts and wife beaters 99% of the time.

I totally agree. The 80's was a total fashion bust. :)

ps thanks for reminding me you are somewhere around 10 years my junior, cause women LOVE that.
cute song!... I admit, not much experience with the generation being a little younger, but appreciate the advancements and music for sure!... some of my favorites came from that age... I love the nostalgic feel of this one.. makes me read it with a smile and especially the second time with the music.. love the quote on the video... "fk art let's dance!!".. heck yes... I am there!!!

Sure did.. Oh and I have revised Surgery on the back of your review.. Thank you!
This one is just plain fun! I lived through these things as well. I don't miss the bell bottoms or the shoulder pads, but sometimes I miss the old days. Life was simpler back then with telephone cords, no ipads or ipods and 8 track tapes...

I hear you. I don't miss it so much as recall it fondly. At least the good parts.
Awww . . . I go back further than you, but of course I remember things you do. My music was Credence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Moody Blues and others of that ilk. I mingles with the Free Love crowd especially for the free love. I saw so many great bands, Janis Joplin being one that will forever stand out in my mind. I saw her perform in a cow pasture near San Francisco when she was still with Big Brother and the Holding Company, and perform she surely did. Oh boy, you caused some great memories to flood my thoughts.

That's great. I am always surprised by some things resonating with people I think of as mine.
Oh, yea, I remember all those things too....and a lot you would not remember too! Loved the phone with a cord and the references to Madonna, Prince, and Nirvana! Good work, KL. Lydi**
