that sinking feeling

that sinking feeling

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

washed the poems with the rest of my laundry

"
Opened the notepad
on my shiny new phone
so I could post
one of 30 odd poems
I had tucked away.

then it hit me

like the time
I threw my jeans in
with the napkins from the bar
after I hooked up
with whatshisface --

his phone number
wasn't the worst of it.
it was the poems
I jotted down
as I crunched my ice cubes.

in my excitement
over my new phone
I was a little quick
with the security wipe
on the old one.

just as effective as a Maytag

without the paper bits
stuck to my favourite pink sweater
to remind me
of the words
I lost.

I like how this captured the "oh crap" feeling perfectly. Nicely written, I like it :)

Thanks. I didn't really like this one that much, but it's all part of the life in verse

I hate that I've lost entire songs, riffs as well as random notes I jot with poems in mind. Great piece darlin, I dig the song too. R xo

Not the best of mine, but I am glad people can relate
I can so relate. It's like losing apart of yourself for awhile. I could never understand why I the poems weren't instantly stuck in my mind and then it's like, back to the drawing board. Great write here!

Thanks for relating.
oh yeah, that sucks... I jot little notes on my phone or whole poems too. I have lost some of those thoughts.

Ah, I am kind of over it. A lot of negative political stuff in those things I lost.:)

political stuff is good to lose. :)
(sometimes...)
Like lost orphans now deigned to wander the word limbo for eternity.
There's no redemption in this because it's an awful event so no levity will be forthcoming KL.

Maybe you will catch them in the ether. Creative soup and all that.
It's times like that you wish you a photographic memory.

Or at least the common sense not to press buttons prematurely.

Most accidents can be avoided if hindsight is followed to the letter. lol
I keep all my poems in journals before I save them on the computer cause If I lost them it would be losing a big part of me.

I rarely write on paper anymore. So. My fault.
ouch, sometimes words are like days there are no do overs or getting them back... and it is often frustrating when it happens especially when it comes to the words written for poetry... there are several books of really good poetry out there somewhere after escaping my pen or lost from computer crashes... I would have been famous KL, maybe even rich too... oh well...

with you though I think those words (rearranged perhaps) will find their way back to napkins, and phone... you are after all KL, enough said...

Yup I guess we have all done it with napkins, scraps of paper and our 'smarter than us' devices!
Well captured sentiments.
