Solid

Solid

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

something real and good -- inspired by a comment from Paul Bell

"
You're a guy who
"cleans up pretty good"
you once said to me,
a long time ago.

You're a farmer, a worker,
a red neck at times --
but only
in t-shirts and tan lines,
not in the ways that matter.

You are everything
that he was not.
and nothing that he
used to be.

You never shower me
in praise and poetry,
to wash the dirt of all the
mean you threw at me
the night before.

But when you shower me,
you hold me
like I want you to,
and even wash my hair.

You are
Solid.
As a man
should be.

This poem does the perfect amount of comparison. I wouldn’t be too fond of a poem that compares too much, becuz it’s not fair to define one love in terms of a different love. But the one poignant example you paint is powerful enuf to convey the comparison well & why this current sweetness is so very appreciated. I very much prefer the kind of profile you describe as being my kind of man! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Thank you. Of my more recent poems, this one is surely a fave. I do appreciate
I think every woman desires a man that is strong enough to just allow her to be a woman and all that it implies. You have done a splendid job of capturing him in print. Long may he live!

God one, Lyn. There has never been anything wrong with t-shirts and tan lines. Glad to see things turning around for you, as this poem so ably demonstrates.
God write.

That's coming out of winter, or Trumps attacked the country.
I heard a song in this lovely poem. Honest and raw." "To wash the dirt off all the mean you threw at me"
So filled with tears. Beautiful!

Solid. Yeah, I like that. How true that they fling dirt and then hope to cover it with sweetness. Good one Lyn.

Thank you so much.
Solid! Such a great word when it comes to relationships. It's not fancy or extravagant not wrapped in pretty words it's just honest and simple, and you express it so simply that it carries so much. R xo

Thank you I appreciate it
This really makes a man look at his behaviour and want - as E! said - "To be that man".
This reminded me so much of a favourite (and so very sad) song 'Where have all the cowboys gone?"
Fiercely beautiful Lynn.
