Reading in Between the Lyrics

Reading in Between the Lyrics

A Poem by Victoria Scott

Have you ever read a poem in soft spoken tones, that when your eyes glided through

the meaningful words you weren’t hearing the story, you weren’t listening to the

words.

You were, in fact, enjoying the sound of a song.

Music played by a writer’s pen and an author’s name.

The lyrics on the paper cloud your mind with the thoughts you filed long ago; a sin,

a good deed, a love, and a loss.

Tears of agony, smiles of joy, at the soul and chorus of the words.

I listened, but did I hear?

I watched, but did I see?

I read, but did I understand?

Listen, your song is about to be sung.

Be prepared for the reality of it to take you anywhere but here.

Listen…

This part was my favorite: Tears of agony, smiles of joy, at the soul and chorus of the words.

I listened, but did I hear?

I watched, but did I see?

I read, but did I understand?

Listen, your song is about to be sung.

Be prepared for the reality of it to take you anywhere but here.

This is just really beautiful to read. I've looked at your other poems and I think this is possibly my favorite. I really like the questions because I think they're legitimately worth asking. Two thumbs up!
