The Christmas Promise

The Christmas Promise

A Poem by angeleapaugh

  The Christmas Promise

When the Angel Gabriel came to Mary
and told her she would have a son
When he told her to name him Jesus
That's when the promise first begun.
He was Wonderful, Counselor and Mighty God
Everlasting Father and Prince of peace
A Savior that is Christ the Lord
He was a Promise that will never cease.
When an Angel appeared to the shepherds
and surrounded them in glorious light
When told of a babe wrapped in cloth in a manger
another promise was made that night.
When the shepherds traveled to Bethlehem
To worship this Everlasting Friend
They knelt down by the Son of The Most High
and a promise of a kingdom without end.
Gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh
Were brought by wise men who traveled far
To see if He who was promised as King of the Jews
lay beneath that bright eastern star.
He that gathers the lambs into His arm
Like a shepherd who feeds his sheep
He will gather you to his bossom
All His promises He will keep.
Oh just to have the Angel Gabriel
speak the words, "Highly favored are thee"
Is a Christmas promise worth so much more
Than any gift you could give to me.

angeleapaugh,
"the Christmas promise"
How amazing to have a great God messenger to a young women Mary; the angel Gabriel. Then Angels announce the Savior Jesus birth. How awestruck beyond belief! Iv'e not seen an angel but from biblical description they are very much God's direct creation.
Just a few lines of beauty and meaning; "He was a promise that will never cease." They knelt down by the son of the most high and a promise of a kingdom without end." "All His promises He will keep." and "than any gift you could give me."
A beautiful poem of hope in this world of difficulties at times but Jesus gives hope!
Thanks for writing. Blessings to you. kathy.
PS I truly enjoyed another of your early poems.
