THE ANCHOR

THE ANCHOR

THE ANCHOR

WHEN I AM TOSSED ABOUT ON THE WATERS
SAILING OUT ON A TROUBLED SEA
I CAN LIFT MINE EYES TO THE HEAVENS
TO THE MASTER WHO GOVERNS ME
WHEN I AM AFRAID TO TAKE THAT STEP
OUT ONTO THE ANGRY WAVES
HE REACHES FORTH HIS HAND
TO REMIND ME THAT HE SAVES
HE WALKS WITH ME THRU THE BATTLE
BREAKS THE ARROWS FROM THE BOW
THE SHIELD WHO STANDS GUARD BESIDE ME
AGAINST THE COMING FOE
HE HAS PROMISED HE WILL COVER ME
WITH HIS FEATHERS IF HE MUST
THERE SHELTERED UNDER HIS WING
I WILL LEARN TO PLACE MY TRUST
FOR MY HOPE IT IS THE ANCHOR
THRU WHICH I WILL SAFELY SAIL
MY SOUL IT WILL THEN BE GUIDED
INTO THAT WITHIN THE VEIL

You've done a great job of showing us the close protective relationship you (or any other possible narrator) have with God. I notice that "the world" is portrayed as a tough & dangerous place, so the emphasis seems to be on being protected & kept safe & providing an anchor in rough seas. For me, the relationship is more one of fun friendship . . . I'm old & the tough parts of my life are behind me now, so I'm just enjoying a daily friendship with my Lord that sustains me in many of the ways you've described here. Great uplifting message.

Thank You!
Well written poem on faith. As John Lennon said " Whatever gets you through the night is alright!'

Must be so rewarding to have such faith, we all have different views. This poem is a credit to your faith too. Although in saying that I have written many a religious poem in my time and I myself believe that Heaven is in the mind....Peace be with you

Very beautifully expressed. We all need Him, I wish more would admit it. God bless you. Valentine

I may not be into faith or religion, but I still think this was well-written and composed. I can admire people with faith despite my lack of it.
