My Ghost

My Ghost

A Poem by A. Lee

I looked in the mirror this morning.

A ghost stared back.

Her eyes were glassy and sunken in,

and her cheeks were hollow.

Her lips matched her skin.

Pale, and slightly translucent,

she stared blankly back at me.

Her gaze held the essence

of an ignored and worn out plea.

And without blinking,

a single tear slid down her left cheek.

At the same moment,

I felt something wet fall from my right eye.

It was the first of many tears,

for the ghost girl and I.

poignant without being maudlin. Something believable and not extreme at all.
