Spenserian Racy Proposal

Spenserian Racy Proposal

A Poem by Annette Jay Sweeney
"

vroom

"

Beer bellied fans surround a circle filled

with grass and the occasionally super drunk.

Cars slip and slide around as if spilled

across a rotating swing. Ads that are funky

cry out to eager spectators as if through TV.

Crashes are what they really crave, spunky

drivers getting too carried away. She

swats away his doting hand, busy bee

leave me alone in the stands. He grabs her

as the green flag is waved, gets on his knees,

and finally wins her attention for

just a brief glimpse, a shining ring appears

a camera catches the moment, the crowd cheers.

Sweeney,
You are such a good writer! This piece has great rhythm and paints a vivid picture. I agree with the featured reviewer...the line about the cars spilled across a rotating swing is fantastic! What a proposal! Noise, excitement, and fumes all around!

This again has great imagery and description. A subtle cynicism runs through it as though distanced from this 'humanity' - though it is real.

"Cars slip and slide around as if spilled
across a rotating swing." >>>> really like this!!!!!!! Great image.

Like a lot of this piece; madness of frolicking existence and blithe ignorance. It just hits the right tone and I like the attitude with which it observes, for instance, the media-driven, crowd mentality of modern culture.

Nice piece of work again.
