Balloons

Balloons

A Poem by Imara

There is nothing more miserable
Than a brightly colored balloon
Joyous silver letters
"Happy Birthday"

Bright and filled with youthful air,
Dancing buoyantly
Seemingly immortal
The numbers grow.

The helium seeping,
With wrinkling rainbow skin,
Will never return.
Ended in its original form.

I don't think I've ever quite thought about a balloon like that, so sad. The closing line is fantastic. It begs so many questions. Is this really just the balloon we are talking about? Can it be reborn? The list goes on. Great thought provoker. I like the format you chose too. It keeps the eyes dancing across the page much like a floating balloon. Very simply but power packed. Great job on this one.

Your poetry is as meaningful and intriguing as your short stories. If you believe in reincarnation, then the balloons will once again celebrate life in an endless circle.

Very nice poem, good thoughts. I like the line "with wrinkling rainbow skin'' very much. It conveys the fate of hte balloon after the party is over, so well. Good job!!!!

This is unique, I'll never look at a birthday balloon quite the same way again...now I'll see those years just shriveling away, thanks Imara, you took all the joy out of fun little hallmark. ;-)

Awesome little piece! I loved how the imagery alternates between something pretty and pleasant, to something aged and ugly. Well done :)
